An introduction to Charnock Hall Primary Academy

Charnock first opened in 1949. Since then it has undergone many changes to get to its current form of a primary school for children aged 4 to 11 years, Reception (Foundation Stage 2) to Year 6, with a capacity for 420 pupils (60 in each year group).

In 2017, Charnock became part of the L.E.A.D. Academy Trust .  In January 2020, Charnock Hall Primary Academy (CHPA) received its first Ofsted inspection since joining the Trust, and we were judged as being GOOD in all areas of the inspection criteria.

Developing confident, independent learners

As soon as pupils enter CHPA in Reception, we work with pupils to develop them in becoming effective, life-long learners and aim to do this through offering learning experiences that are relevant, fun and allow them to be involved in their own learning as fully as possible. We talk with pupils regularly about ‘learning how to learn’ and giving them opportunities to take their learning in the direction that they wish to go. They are fully involved in shaping and directing the curriculum as this is a key feature of how pupils learn at CHPA. We aim for pupils to work on 3 main values, which are Big Thinkers! Big Hearted! Big Dreamers!

Every achievement matters

Praise, support and encouragement are at the heart of our ethos and play a major part in how we develop children as learners. We celebrate all achievements, no matter how small and endeavour to enable all to feel good about their successes.

In this ever changing world, many jobs that our pupils will undertake have yet to be invented. With this in mind, we endeavour to provide a curriculum that supports their academic journey and equips them to deal with their educational career. We do hold onto some long standing traditions though and value the place of these within a modern day curriculum, such as the Team system and the celebration of pupil achievements each week in our ‘Learner of the Week’ assembly.

The Charnock Hall Primary Academy Pledge

We aspire for CHPA to be an outstanding hub of the community, where highly skilled staff nurture, develop and inspire a happy inclusive learning environment, so all pupils are equipped with the academic and social skills for their current and future life long journey, to be the best they can be.

Instilling values and high standards of behaviour

We place great emphasis upon the pupils having high standards of behaviour, and we strive to instill important values and standards to this end to develop them to become good citizens now, and in the future, within a modern Sheffield, Britain and World.

We want pupils to have a desire to succeed and have the following mantra – Be the Best I Can Be!

Dedicated staff ready to welcome you and your child to CHPA

Staff are dedicated, hardworking and committed to encouraging your child to be the best that they can be. They are always willing and able to answer any questions that you may have and spend time with you sharing what we are aiming to achieve.

You will always be most welcome at CHPA, and I hope that if you have the time, you will come and talk to us about our vision for your child.  Only by visiting Charnock and witnessing the pupils in action, will you realise how amazing they are!
