We always aim to work positively with parents, when we have concerns regarding children’s attendance. This involves School regularly keeping you updated via letters and other forms of contact regarding your child’s attendance percentage, as well as offering support or guidance whenever it is needed. We strive to work in partnership with families to find realistic solutions to overcome barriers to learning. Mrs Jenkinson, our Pupil Support Officer is available to advise and support you with a variety of matters. Please contact the School office to make an appointment.
If your child’s attendance falls below 96.5% or they are reaching the threshold of 10 sessions missed in a 10-week period, we will make contact with you and offer support. Attendance will be closely monitored and if concerns continue, you will be invited into CHPA for a School Attendance Meeting. At this stage, an Attendance Support Plan will be put together with Mrs Bolton, our Attendance and Safeguarding Officer. If there is no improvement following this an Attendance Contract will be put in place. Following this, if still no improvement the Local Authority will be invited into School to meet with you and our Attendance Team to discuss further actions.
In addition to this, any absences for pupils with attendance below 90% will require medical evidence, such as an appointment card, in order to be authorised.
Remember, school attendance is your statutory responsibility as a parent or primary carer. This means if your child’s attendance falls into the red region below, not only is their education suffering, but you will be referred to the Education Welfare Service and may also receive a penalty notice.
Every Minute Counts!
Alongside attendance, punctuality is also closely monitored at CHPA! Please work with us to provide your child with the best chances of learning by making sure they are in school every day and on time. Children who are late or absent can never recover what is most important: the discussion, the questions, the explanations by the teacher and the thinking that makes learning come alive.
Lateness = Lost Learning
(Figures below are calculated over a school year)
5 minutes late each day 3 days lost!
10 minutes late each day 6.5 days lost!
15 minutes late each day 10 days lost!
20 minutes late each day 13 days lost!
30 minutes late each day 19 days lost!
