What is the Sports Premium funding?
Sports Premium funding is an initiative first introduced by Government in 2013 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding to help develop Sports and PE within schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all pupils. This year with the introduction of the Sugar Tax schools have recieved an increase to their Sports Premium Funding.
Sport Premium funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of Sports Premium funding
Schools have to spend the Sport Premium funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, however each school will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport that they offer.
Possible uses for the funding include:
How is CHPA spending the Sports Premium funding and who will benefit?
At CHPA we believe that the money must be used so that all pupils benefit regardless of sporting ability; that pupils are given the opportunity to experience a variety of different sporting activities, and increase participation in sport and physical activity. We also aim to ensure that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development. Finally, parts of this money will be used to maintain and improve the CHPA’s PE equipment and resources.
CHPA has used the Sports Premium funding to buy into the Sheffield Sports Partnership. The Sports Partnership provides training for PE Leads and Headteachers. The partnership meetings also provide opportunities to meet with PE Leads from other schools and to find out about coaching and training available to schools through meeting directly with trainers and coaches approved by the Sheffield Sports Partnership.
Please view our Sports Premium Funding Evaluation Documents for more detailed information on how Sports Premium Funding is spent at CHPA.
Measuring Impact
The impact of the Sports Premium funding was evaluated as part of our normal self-evaluation and provision mapping arrangements. The below documents outline how Sports Premium funding has been spent at CHPA and its impact. Each year the Headteacher and PE Lead evaluate how the money has been spent for that year, and then use this information to inform CHPA’s budget for the upcoming year. This will also be a time when we reflect on our progress towards the priorities for PE within CHPA, and plan ahead to priorities for the upcoming year.
To measure impact we evaluate how well we use our Sport Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision to help develop our provision of sport and PE against 5 key indicators. At CHPA we work to show improvement across these 5 indicators with our PE and sport provision. These are:
Sports Premium money will go towards continuing to develop our PE and sports provision at CHPA. Please read below to find out more about our intended spend over the coming year.
