Charnock Hall Primary Academy is proposing to open a school based nursery and extend its age range from 4 – 11 years to 2 – 11 years from September 2027.
As part of the consultation process and as part of the statutory requirements, we are consulting parents and careers of Charnock Hall Primary Academy, parents in the area, the Local Authority, other local primary schools and nurseries to seek feedback regarding the proposed changes. The consultation process will run from Friday 17th July to Thursday 10th September 2026. L.E.A.D. Academy Trust will then consider comments received during the consultation period.
Charnock Hall Primary Academy currently has a pupil admission number of 60 and capacity for 420 pupils. We currently admit children into Reception as part of the normal admission process to primary school. Under the proposals, this will change and will allow us to create 10 full time equivalent places for 2 year old children and 26 full time equivalent places for 3 & 4 year old children as part of our Nursery provision.
The proposal is part of a strategy to develop nursery provision in the academy and maximise the educational benefits in offering local families funded access to early year’s provision in an academy setting supporting our future pupil’s access to a provision. The proposal also supports the Government’s policy of extending the early years funded entitlement to families of all 2-year-olds which came into effect in April 2024.
The benefits of this are strong links between families, the community and the academy and improved continuity of educational provision resulting in better outcomes for the children.
It is envisaged that there would be no impact on the academy, the children, the environment or the local community. It is also envisaged that due to the Governments expansion of early entitlement and analysis of provision requirements, there would be no impact to other similar local providers and the placement of children would remain a parental preference.
Following a survey of academy parents
Following the consultation period L.E.A.D. Academy Trust will consider any comments received and a decision will be made on how to proceed.
