Pupil Subject Ambassadors

Each class has an ambassador for every subject. One of these ambassadors is chosen to be the CHPA representative. These pupils are

passionate about the subject they represent, they enjoy learning about their chosen subject and are inspirational in leading and

empowering other pupils to feel the same way.

Our Pupil Subject Ambassadors for Science are –

Class 3 – Sam

Class 4 – Elliott

Class 5 – Steevie

Class 6 – Arche

Class 7 – Oscar

Class 8 – Leo

Class 9 – Ana

Class 10 – Phoebe

Class 11 – Alfie

Class 12 – Oliver

Class 13 – Nate

Class 14 – Dylan

Steevie is the CHPA Geography Representative.  He said the following about Science, ‘I find Science really interesting especially Biology. I love nature and looking after wildlife.’

Science Intent, Implementation & Impact

Intent
At CHPA, it is our intention to recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. Our Science lessons work on working scientifically and pupils develop an enquiry approach where they are encouraged to be active scientists who hypothesise and investigate answers to questions. We aim to make Science as practical as possible, linking to real life contexts and giving a meaning to our learning. Our Science lessons aim to increase pupils’ knowledge and understanding of our world. Our Curriculum intent is based on the National Curriculum. This is broken down into topics within each year group, which consist of progressive key skills and
knowledge. These skills and knowledge are sequenced to ensure prior learning and new knowledge are interlinked and key skills are built upon from previous years. In every Science lesson pupil are encouraged to make links to STEM careers and to learn about a variety of scientists. We also encourage the pupils to make links to what Science is like in the real world wherever possible.

Implementation
To achieve our curriculum goals, we provide exciting, practical hands on experiences that encourage curiosity and questioning. Through these stimulating and challenging experiences we support every child secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary. At CHPA, we have a coherently planned and sequenced curriculum, which has been carefully designed and developed with the needs of our pupil and our community at the centre. Science is taught weekly as we value this as a core subject area.

At CHPA, Science topics are taught within each year group in accordance with the National Curriculum.

Each year group builds upon the learning from prior year groups therefore ensuring depth of understanding and progression of skills.

Pupil explore, question, predict, plan, investigate and observe as well as conclude their findings by answering enquiry questions.

Pupil present their learning using Science specific language, diagrams and recording is only used when it is beneficial to the Science learning. Pupil are encouraged to evidence their learning through Showbie and class learning journeys.

Pupil will use a range of resources to develop their knowledge and understanding that is integral to their
learning and develop their understanding of working scientifically.

Pupils are able to build on prior knowledge and link ideas together, enabling them to question and become
enquiry based learners.

Regular opportunities to review the learning take place every lesson. Pupil are encouraged to recap from ‘Last
Year’, ‘Last Term’ and Last Week’. This supports the pupil in their ability to ‘know more and remember more’.
Teachers access a range of resources, planning and effective CPD opportunities.

Educational visits such as the Space Centre and the Tropical Butterfly House are planned, to enrich and
enhance the pupils’ learning experiences.

Where applicable links to Science will be made to develop the pupil’s topical learning.

Impact
The impact of our curriculum design is that pupil will make outstanding progress over time, relative to their individual starting point and their progression of skills. Pupil will leave CHPA reaching at least age related expectations for Science and will retain knowledge that is pertinent to Science within a real life context.

Through various trips, interactions with experts and themed days our Science curriculum will lead pupils to be
enthusiastic Science learners and understand that Science has changed our lives and that it is vital to the
world’s future success. We will empower our pupil so they understand they have the capability to change the
world. This is evidenced in a range of ways; pupil voice, pupils’ work and learning walks.
